India registered a resounding seven-wicket win over Pakistan in the Group A match of the Asia Cup 2025. After finishing the game in just 15.5 overs, where India gained a crucial victory, star pacer Jasprit Bumrah delivered four overs for 28 runs, bagging two wickets in his spell.
Why Bumrah Isn't Really Necessary Against Oman
Pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been India's vital cog in the past with some glaring performances, changing the tune of the game with his sensational bowling. However, after two consecutive wins for India against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and recently against Pakistan, the Men In Blue will next feature against the Oman in the final Group A match on Friday, September 19th.
With a five-day gap between both these games, and as India have already qualified for the Super Four stage, it is highly likely that India might tinker with their playing 11 and give chances to a few fringe players who are warming the bench in the last two games.
It is worth noting that Bumrah delivered three overs against Oman and four overs against Pakistan, with a total of seven overs in the last two games. With his workload management in sight, considering he missed two Test matches in the recently concluded series against England last month, there is a high chance that Bumrah might be rested in this upcoming clash against Oman.
Considering the reality that this game is not a must-win encounter and players like Harshit Rana or Arshdeep Singh might be given a chance to play, Bumrah might not be in the mix for this encounter. With the Super Four stage coming up, India might not want to overload Bumrah, and that is why he might not play in this match.
Also, the fact that Bumrah hasn't been at his best so far in the tournament, where against the UAE, he gave away 19 runs in his three-over spell, which is unlike Bumrah, considering the opposition managed only 57, while in the game against Pakistan, he was improved but still not at his very best, giving away 28 runs in his four over spell with two wickets. Therefore, the Indian team might look to give chances to some other players for this game against Oman.
Why Bumrah Shouldn't Be Rested
While there is a probability that he might not play, there is also a prospect that he could be in for this game. With just seven overs delivered across two games, Bumrah's case should be that he hasn't been at his best, and thus, needs to get his mojo back before the Super Four stage.
Embracing the five-day gap between Pakistan and Oman, Bumrah might feature against the Oman side as India will look to continue with their playing strength and not give Oman a single chance, as he would be getting plenty of rest before this game and didn't have too much to do in the last two games.
