For weeks now, there have been strong rumours about Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Sanju Samson possibly moving to another team before the IPL 2026 mini-auction. Fans are buzzing with talk that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are interested in signing him.

Samson, who joined RR in 2013 and has been their captain since 2021, has been a key part of the team. Reports suggest he might want to leave the Royals before the new season, and CSK are said to be very keen on getting him.

Nitish Rana’s Cheeky Remark Sparks Fresh Speculation

Adding fuel to the rumours, RR star batter and India cricketer Nitish Rana recently made a cheeky remark. During an interview at the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025, Rana was asked to share something about Samson that people don’t know. With a smile, he replied:

“I don't know, where he’s going to play next year in IPL.”

Notably, Samson’s IPL journey has been an eventful one. He first joined KKR in 2012 but didn’t play a match. The next year, he was picked by RR and made his IPL debut. After stints with Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in 2016 and 2017, he returned to RR in 2018. Under his captaincy, Rajasthan even reached the 2022 final but lost.

In the 2025 season, Samson’s participation was limited due to abdominal injury. He played only nine matches, scoring 285 runs at an average of 35.63 and a strike rate of 140.39.

Meanwhile, the Kerala batter has been included in India’s Asia Cup 2025 squad, starting on September 9. However, it remains uncertain whether he will be included in the playing XI.
