The Netherlands were handed a harsh reality check in Sylhet as Bangladesh flexed their muscles and stormed to an eight-wicket win in the opening T20I of the three-match series. The Tigers made light work of a modest chase and went 1-0 up, leaving the Dutch camp searching for answers.
But in the middle of all this, Netherlands head coach Ryan Cook had nothing but admiration for the brilliance of Litton Das and Taskin Ahmed.
Litton Das Leads From The Front
Bangladesh skipper Litton Das set the tone early and never looked back. His 54 off just 29 balls was pure class with timely boundaries, crisp rotation and that fearless intent. Litton looked like a man batting on a different pitch. Ryan Cook couldn’t help but tip his hat, saying,
“I thought they struck the ball really well with clean execution. As soon as our bowlers missed, they were on it. Some excellent shots both on the ground and in the air. Also, some really smart strike rotation—especially from Litton, who played an extraordinary innings. They batted really well.”
Cook’s words summed it up perfectly. Litton not only punished loose balls but also milked singles with ease. That combination of aggression and smarts is what separated Bangladesh from the Dutch.
Taskin Ahmed Brings Fire With The New Ball
While Litton lit up the chase, Taskin Ahmed did the early damage that made everything easier. His excellent spell ripped through the Netherlands top order, picking up four wickets and leaving the visitors in tatters. For Cook, this wasn’t anything new as Taskin has been a thorn in their side for a while.
“Taskin’s a wonderful bowler. He always seems to trouble our top order no matter where we play. A fantastic guy, and I wish him all the best. He’s getting better every time I see him. He’s a big threat with the new ball, bowled really good tight lines today, and was rewarded,” Cook admitted.
The Dutch couldn’t find a way past Taskin’s tight lines and extra bounce. By the time he was done, the writing was on the wall.
What Lies Ahead
The series is young, and the Dutch still have two games to bounce back. But if Litton keeps batting like this and Taskin keeps steaming in with fire, Bangladesh look like they are holding all the aces. The Tigers have struck the first blow and the visitors know they will need something special to claw their way back.
