Leading India is already a high-profile job, and captaining the side during a World Cup attracts even more eyeballs.

Team India under Rohit Sharma in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, has looked like a well-oiled machine, having notched up wins against sides such as Australia and Pakistan early in the tournament.

Sharma, himself has had a stellar start to the competition, having slammed 217 runs in three matches, including a ton and a fifty. Former England captain Naseer Hussain, who has a keen eye on Indian and global cricket, has hailed Sharma as one of the GOATs in ODIs.

Speaking to ICC, Hussain stated how Sharma compared to other batters has more time to play his shots.

"Rohit Sharma has to be one of the greatest ever white ball players, he has so much time".

Hussain does have substance to back his claim, as Sharma in 254 ODIs between 2007 and 2023, has amassed 10,329 runs with 31 centuries, 53 half-centuries, and three double hundreds.

Several former and current players including Virat Kohli have hailed Sharma's elegancy and sheer belligerence in batting, which makes him a distinct opener from others in his league.

Sharma is already the leading century-scorer in the history of World Cup, having slammed seven tons, surpassing the great Sachin Tendulkar (6).

The 36-year-old will be in action, when India takes field against Bangladesh today at Pune, aiming to win their fourth consecutive match in WC 23.
