Struggling Indian batting legends Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli seem to have received systematic support from national head coach Gautam Gambhir. Both Sharma and Kohli are currently undergoing one of the worst phases of their respective playing careers.

With underwhelming returns in home Test series against Bangladesh and New Zealand; coupled with a 1-3 drubbing in Australia in the recently-concluded ‘Border-Gavaskar Trophy’ series, the two legendary cricketers are currently slated to reprise their Team India roles in the upcoming 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.

While speaking at the BCCI awards 2025 in Mumbai, Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir highlighted the significance of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to the Indian team. A former cricketer himself, Gambhir stated that the iconic batters bring immense value to the dressing room, and he backed them to come up clutch in the upcoming 2025 ICC Champions Trophy despite their repeated struggles.

He said:“For me, both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli bring so much value to the dressing room and add so much value to Indian cricket as well. I'm sure both those guys, along with the rest of the team, will be absolutely hungry.”

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will soon be joining the Indian team for their upcoming three-match ODI series against England. The first ODI will be hosted by the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur on February 6. The series serves as a testing ground for the Indian team before the ICC 2025 Champions Trophy later this month.

The two cricketers previously featured in India’s ODI composition back in August last year, where the ‘Men in Blue’ suffered a 0-2 drubbing to Sri Lanka’s spin attack in the island nation.
