Khulna Tigers, led and inspired by charismatic all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz, defeated Dhaka Capitals in match number 41 of the BPL 2024-25 season to qualify for the playoffs at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka. Hasan Mahmud also excelled with the ball before captain Miraz aced an easy run-chase with the bat.

Here’s the timeline of how Dhaka Capitals vs Khulna Tigers panned out in Dhaka:

Capitals vs Tigers Highlights: Tanzid Hasan Leads Early Assault For Dhaka Capitals

Opening batter Tanzid Hasan ensured the Dhaka Capitals raced to its team 50 in five overs, and to a fiery 54-2 by the end of the powerplay phase. Despite losing opening partner Litton Das and number three batter Habibur Rahman Sohan early in the innings to Mehidy Hasan Miraz (1-30) and Hasan Mahmud respectively, Tanzid kept counterattacking from his end of the crease with a sequence of seven scorching sixes and a boundary.

The elegant left-hander smeared 58 runs from just 37 deliveries as the Capitals reached a commanding 81-2 at the end of 12 overs.

Capitals vs Tigers Highlights: Collective Tigers Brilliance Strangle Capitals In Slog Overs

Khulna Tigers bowlers collectively strangulated Dhaka Capitals’ ever-expanding run-flow by picking up crucial wickets at regular intervals. Australian based right-arm spinner William Bosisto sparked Tigers’ fightback with the wickets of Farmanullah and a well-set Tanzid Hasan in the space of a single over to claim astonishing figures of 2-10 from his four-over spell.

Ziaur Rahman (1-10) and Mohammad Nawaz (1-15) dismissed Thisara Perera and Rahmat Ali for first-ball ducks respectively while left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed (1-20) got rid of Riaz Hassan for a sluggish 10-ball five.

Sabbir Rahman made a valiant 20 from 17 balls during the slog overs alongside Mehedi Hasan Rana (13 off 11) to take the Capitals past the 100-run mark, until both cricketers were dismissed by Musfik Hasan (1-31) and Hasan Mahmud respectively.

Mahmud, in particular, unfurled the spell of the innings as he claimed two wickets at an expense of just five runs for the Khulna Tigers as Dhaka Capitals managed to accrue just 42 runs from their final eight overs to reach a sluggish 123-9.

Capitals vs Tigers Highlights: Mustafizur Rahman’s Opening Spell Jolts Tigers’ Top-Order

Dhaka Capitals fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman struck in his first over with the key wicket of Khulna Tigers opener Mohammad Naim for a two-ball duck. The speedster also struck in his following over, this time removing number three Afif Hossain from the crease for a three-ball duck as the Tigers slipped to 14-2 in a small chase of 124.

Capitals vs Tigers Highlights: Mehidy Hasan Calms Nerves With Composed 74*

Khulna Tigers captain and opening batter Mehidy Hasan Miraz overcame his team’s jittery top-order start with a sublime half-century. The cricketer shared an enterprising 68-run partnership with Alex Ross (22 off 19) until the latter was caught out by Sabbir Rahman off Rahmat Ali (1-24) in the 10th over of the run-chase.

Mehidy Hasan extended his fifty into a notable 74* from just 55 balls with five boundaries and four sixes to steer Khulna Tigers to a commendable six-wicket win in just 16.5 overs. The outcome also helped the Tigers secure the fourth spot on the BPL 2024-25 points table to qualify for the playoffs.
