'Rishabh Pant Was Difficult To Connect With': Ex India Coach Reveals Interesting Story

Rishabh Pant's journey in international cricket has been nothing short of a rollercoaster, marked by spectacular performances and formidable challenges. Former Indian fielding coach, R Sridhar, who worked with the national team from 2014 to 2021, had a front-row seat to Pant's rise and has shared insights into the young cricketer’s early days in the international arena.

Sridhar recalled the initial challenges of working with Pant, particularly due to the latter's unique personality and approach.

According to Sridhar, Rishabh Pant was a "tough nut to crack," a young, spirited player fresh off his success in the Under-19 World Cup. His unconventional style, combined with his fearless attitude, made it difficult for the coaching staff to connect with him initially.

However, Sridhar emphasized the importance of adapting coaching methods to suit the needs of the player, a philosophy that ultimately helped him build a trusting relationship with Pant.

"It's a simple coaching philosophy. If they don't learn the way you coach, coach the way they learn. A lot of times you say something and think the job is done, but if athletes are not picking it up, then you've not done your job. You've got to change your style and suit it according to the requirement of the athlete," Sridhar said on 'Anubhav Talks'.

Pant's Resilient Comeback Post Accident

Pant's resilience was put to the test following a serious car accident in December 2022, which sidelined him for over a year. Despite the severity of his injuries, Pant demonstrated incredible determination, making a remarkable recovery and returning to action in the IPL 2024.

His performance, though not entirely reminiscent of his earlier exploits, showcased flashes of his trademark audacity.

Pant’s return to international cricket was capped by his participation in the s 2024 in the West Indies, where his contributions helped India secure the title.

Now, with his upcoming return to red-ball cricket in the series against Bangladesh, there is a sense of hope and optimism. All eyes will be on Pant as he aims to reestablish himself as one of India's key players, a journey that promises to be filled with excitement and anticipation.
