'Ready to Battle Shoaib Akhtar': Virender Sehwag Reveals Plans for India vs Pakistan World Cup 2023 Game

The International Cricket Council (ICC) unveiled the schedule for the ICC 2023 World Cup with the Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team playing the Babar Azam-led Pakistan on October 15 at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

The Men in Blue have dominated their arch-rivals on all the seven mega World Cup occasions the two teams have met so far. Shedding light on this rivalry, the former India cricketer Virender Sehwag has said that India handles the pressure of the big games better than Pakistan.

Here’s what Virender Sehwag said during the launch event of the schedule aired on Star Sports:

“I feel that now India handles pressure that is why they win whereas Pakistan have a burden that they haven't won against India. In the 1990s, they were good at dealing with pressure but after 2000, India soak it better.”

“If any player says that they don't feel pressure, I don't think it's right. We used to say it too but at the end of the day, we know it's an India vs Pakistan game and emotions run high.”

Furthermore, the ‘Sultan of Multan’ revealed his plans to engage into a social media war with a former Pakistan speedster, often known as ‘Rawalpindi Express’ Shoaib Akhtar during the high-intensity event.

“Everybody knows that all the focus is going to be on the India vs Pakistan match. I am ready to have a battle with Shoaib Akhtar during that game... on social media.”

India versus Pakistan matches always attract huge crowds and are eagerly anticipated, particularly during World Cups. The stakes and expectations reach a whole new level during these encounters.

India held an unbeaten record against Pakistan in all World Cups, including both T20Is and ODIs, until 2020. However, the streak finally came to a halt during the 2021 T20 World Cup as Pakistan, led by Babar Azam, handed India a devastating ten-wicket defeat in Dubai.
