Legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has unveiled his top contenders for the forthcoming ICC Men's Cricket World Cup in India. In a surprising twist, he omitted the host nation, India, and instead bestowed his favour upon England, Australia, and Pakistan as the leading contenders for the coveted title.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the International Cricket Council (ICC) recently unveiled the comprehensive schedule for the tournament. The highly anticipated event is scheduled to commence on October 5 and conclude on November 19 in Ahmedabad, with the final match set to take place at the esteemed Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium.

Even before the tournament has begun, cricket enthusiasts and experts have already started deliberating on the potential frontrunners for this significant ICC title.

India, having won the World Cup twice, are widely regarded as the favourites to secure victory on their home turf. However, Gavaskar's surprising exclusion of India highlights his belief in the prowess of defending champions England, five-time winners Australia, and the 1992 World Cup champions Pakistan, who are all recognized as strong contenders to lift the prestigious trophy.

During an interview with Star Sports, Gavaskar expressed his preferences, stating, "How many did you say – two or three? England, Australia, and Pakistan."

This unexpected revelation has piqued the interest of cricket enthusiasts worldwide, intensifying the anticipation surrounding the upcoming World Cup in India.

While India's home advantage and successful cricketing history cannot be overlooked, Gavaskar's assessment suggests that England, Australia, and Pakistan possess the necessary skills and potential to challenge and outperform the host nation.
