Former Indian cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu has sounded the alarm for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) ahead of their crucial clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Friday evening. With the top-two race heating up, RCB will be desperate to sustain their top-two position in the points table.
Wounded Lions SRH Ready to Maul RCB; Believes Sidhu
On the other hand, the Sunrisers, who are already out of the competition, will be now eyeing to finish their campaign on a positive note. Sidhu, who was previewing the RCB vs Sunrisers clash in Star Sports, shed light on Pat Cummins’ team’s ability to spoil RCB’s party as despite being out of contention, they remain a serious threat like a wounded lion with nothing to lose.
"The underdog has no fear. You saw how Lucknow played. The pressure is on RCB because they need two points. When you run after something, it runs further ahead. SRH don't have any pressure. They have to play their game freely. That is a dangerous situation," Sidhu said on Star Sports.
The veteran commentator highlighted the dangerous unpredictability that SRH now carry, especially when they are now playing with freedom and without any pressure. Moreover, he gave the example of Lucknow Super Giants’ upset over Gujarat Titans on Thursday, a result that significantly dented GT’s top-two chances.
Top-Two Teams Don’t Just Qualify, They Rule the Playoffs
Sidhu further emphasised the critical importance of RCB finishing in the top two, which offers a direct route to the IPL final. The teams finishing in the top two of the league stage have historically had a better chance of winning the IPL, often going on to lift the trophy.
With Gujarat Titans slipping, RCB will be eager to capitalise on the opportunity, knowing that securing a top-two finish significantly boosts their chances of reaching the final. However, for that they have to first overcome SRH's challenge who are capable of derailing RCB’s playoff momentum according to Sidhu.
The Sunrisers are coming on the back of a huge win over Lucknow in their last game and have enough firepower, especially in batting to spoil RCB’s party. Moreover, it has been 20 days since RCB played their last game which has completely killed their momentum after a big win over Chennai Super Kings at home and Sidhu’s words serve even more important now as both a warning and a call for focus.
