In a promising update for Delhi Capitals and Indian cricket enthusiasts, Ricky Ponting has expressed confidence in Rishabh Pant's readiness to participate fully in the upcoming IPL season.

Pant, who suffered a serious car accident on December 30 back in 2022, has been on a recovery journey, gradually returning to fitness activities. Despite missing significant cricketing events last year, including the IPL and international fixtures, Pant has been seen attending matches, signaling his eagerness to return to action.

Ponting, while acknowledging Pant's optimism about his comeback, remains cautious about his role, uncertain whether he will resume wicketkeeping duties or captaincy.

"Rishabh is very confident that he's going to be right to play. In what capacity we're not quite sure yet. You would have seen all the social-media stuff, he's up and about and running well. But in saying that we're only six weeks away from the first game as well. So we're not sure if we'll get wicketkeeping out of him this year,

But I'll guarantee if I asked him now he'll say, 'I'm playing every game, I'm keeping every game and I'm batting at No.4.' That's just what he's like, but we'll keep our fingers crossed," Ponting remarked, highlighting the uncertainty surrounding Pant's role in the team.

While Pant is eager to don multiple responsibilities, Ponting emphasized the importance of managing his workload judiciously, considering his prolonged absence from competitive cricket.

Despite Delhi Capitals' underwhelming performance in the previous season, Ponting remains optimistic about their prospects, particularly with Pant's potential return. As the IPL 2024 season approaches, Ponting and his team look forward to Pant's contributions, hoping for a successful campaign ahead.
