The Pakistan cricket team slumped to a five-wicket larruping at the hands of Team India in the final of the 2025 Asia Cup in Dubai. Led by Agha Salman, the ‘Men in Green’ lost each of their three matches against India in the tournament, which included defeats in the Group stage and the Super Four round before the title clash.

As one can expect, legendary fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar did not hold back after Pakistan’s latest Asia Cup collapse. Visibly dejected, Akhtar questioned the team management, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as well as team captain Agha Salman.

Shoaib Akhtar slams “uninspiring” captain Agha Salman

Speaking on ARY news, Shoaib Akhtar claimed that the PCB wants “obedient kids” in the Pakistan team instead of “strong personalities”. He also added that the team has no attitude and captain Agha Salman is not “inspiring” enough to lead the group, which itself compounds to the reflection of some of PCB’s choices.

Shoaib Akhtar said:

“Humey ab shareef bacche chahiyen, jo aaath baje curfew legake ghar pey bait jaayen. Cricket board ko in jaisey bechare, lallu-kattu chahiye. They don’t want strong personalities. This is the reflection of the PCB policies. Where will the attitude come when the captain is not inspiring? The captain is a reflection of the board’s choices.”

Shoaib Akhtar also vowed that he will never join the PCB, and will continue to make money by working in television. The legendary speedster stated that he made the decision straightaway after retiring from international cricket. Akhtar added:

“Senseless and headless-chicken management. The team combinations weren’t right, the captaincy wasn’t spot-on, and they weren’t willing to listen to us. From the first day after my retirement, I had decided I will never join PCB as whoever has gone there has never come out with respect. I work in TV, take money, and sit. These guys don’t want strong personalities.”

The Pakistan team will now host South Africa for an all-format series in October and November. The two teams will play two Tests, three T20Is and three ODIs between October 12 and November 8.
