Replicating Australia skipper Pat Cummins’s vow to silence the Indian crowd, South Africa women’s captain Laura Wolvaardt sent a stern warning to the India women’s cricket team, as well as Indian fans, during the pre-match press conference ahead of the Women’s World Cup final on Sunday, November 2.

Laura Wolvaardt strictly warns India crowd

Wolvaardt expressed confidence about South Africa’s chances in the ODI World Cup final at the DY Patil Stadium, following their valiant semi-final performance against England that secured their spot in the title clash. Notably, South Africa has dominated India in ODIs, which could pose a challenge for the hosts.

"I think for me, personally, I'm really trying not to think about the result. I think in those finals - or the first time I was in the final - you automatically think about the trophy and think about winning, and sort of get excited. Now I'm just really trying to stay [in the] present. We still have a really big game ahead of us against a really quality side," Wolvaardt said.

"Win will silence them": Laura Wolvaardt

The Proteas skipper appeared fully confident about her team’s mindset heading into the final and displayed an aggressive attitude when speaking about the packed Indian crowd, expressing her desire to silence the home supporters.

"I think [with] the whole crowd behind India, probably a sold-out stadium, it's going to be a very exciting opportunity. But at the same time, I think it puts a lot of pressure on them as well. They have the whole country behind them, and sort of expect them to win. Hopefully we win. I guess that will silence them," Wolvaardt said.

With the match set to commence from 3:00 PM IST, a jam-packed DY Patil stadium will see the two teams clash for glory as the visitors aim to give a silent treatment to the home crowd just like Pat Cummins did in the World Cup final back in 2023.
