Sanju Samson, the Kerala-born cricketer, has recently addressed the ongoing debate about his international career and his fans’ unwavering support. Despite an illustrious IPL career, Samson’s T20I performances have been inconsistent.

His recent stint in the T20I series against Sri Lanka further intensified scrutiny, as he was dismissed for ducks in both games, extending his streak of low scores in three out of his last five T20I innings.

With a total of 278 T20 games under his belt, Samson has struggled to translate his IPL form to the international stage, managing only 30 T20I appearances in nine years.

Being part of the World Cup team is like: Samson

This disparity has led to questions about his ability to seize opportunities at the highest level. Nonetheless, Samson remains optimistic and grateful for the support he receives.

In an interview with Zee, Samson reflected on his career’s highs and lows.

"The last 3-4 months have been the best of my career. Being part of the World Cup team is like a dream come true something I desired 3-4 years ago. My wish was to play in my last ODI World Cup. However, it was only after joining the team and winning the Twenty20 World Cup that I realized it wasn't an easy task. But in the last series against Sri Lanka, I didn't perform as expected," he said.

Samson admitted that while being part of the team and winning the T20 World Cup was a significant achievement, his recent performance in the Sri Lanka series fell short of expectations.

"The support I've received from people across the country, as well as from Malayalis all the way from New Zealand to the West Indies, is amazing. Other team members often say that wherever I go, I have incredible support. That's why they feel disappointed when I don't make it into the team or when I get out for a duck. I have the maturity to understand that," Samson added.

The Indian wicket-keeper batter faced two ducks in the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka.
