After Lahore Qalandars renewed their PSL commitment for another 10 years alongside franchises like Peshawar Zalmi and Karachi Kings, the most valuable PSL franchise revealed a clip of their captain Shaheen Afridi reflecting on his journey with the franchise.
Shaheen, who currently leads Pakistan in the ODIs, shared his vision for the team and how his journey has been since 2017.
Afridi fixated on developing new players for the country
An emotional Shaheen Afridi was found speaking on the Lahore Qalandars unit and how it helped the nation find some real gems to play in international cricket.
The three-time PSL winners, who won the 2025 edition, had their vision engraved in their captain, who elaborated that his mission is not only to win trophies but also to develop players for the nation.
"Our goal is not just to win trophies. Our goal is to develop players, give them opportunities & provide new talent for Pakistan, & this vision will remain the same for the next 10 years," Afridi said in the video released by Lahore Qalandars on their X handle.
Afridi recollected the tough phase when Qalandars shaped young players when Pakistan had the crisis of getting rare gems in the form of cricketers.
"I still remember the phase when people were saying that Pakistan doesn't have any talent, and LQ gave the opportunity to the players to prove their worth for the nation. These 10 years of Lahore Qalandars were exciting, and our vision for the next 10 years is the same—to give maximum opportunities to players and find national treasures," Afridi concluded.
Afridi's association with Qalandars
Shaheen Afridi has been an asset for the Lahore Qalandars too. Since 2021, Afridi has taken the helm of the Lahore Qalandars in PSL and has led by example. From 84 PSL clashes, Afridi managed 122 wickets while maintaining a decent economy rate of 7.97.
Though the 2025 season saw him collect 19 wickets, his most prolific season was 2021, where he bagged 20 wickets from 13 matches at an economy rate of 7.57.
