Yuzvendra Chahal Flies To South Africa For ODIs; Shares Update Via Instagram

Yuzvendra Chahal on Wednesday (December 13) boarded the flight towards the rainbow nation as the experienced wrist-spinner gears up for South Africa versus India three-match ODI series, starting Sunday in Johannesburg.

Chahal could be making his international comeback after four long months on the sidelines via the three-game rubber, with matches scheduled in Jo'burg, Gqeberha and Paarl on December 17, 19 and 21.

The veteran leggie last turned up for India during the five-match T20I series in the Caribbean where he proved to be costly against a West Indies side which impressively clinched the rubber 3-2 against a second-string visiting side.

The struggling bowler was a major absentee from India's senior squad picked for the Asia Cup 2023, the ODI series at home versus Australia before facing a huge career setback with his ouster from another ICC event. The cricketer was snubbed out in preference of other tweakers for the 2023 World Cup on home shores in October-November.

Chahal To Make Comeback Via South Africa ODIs

Undergoing a sustained slump in his wicket-taking prowess while facing question marks on his range and skillset, Chahal was even sacked from the T20I squad on the back of disappointing performances in the Caribbean.

He wasn't named in the squad for the home series against Australia as well as the ongoing T20I series versus the Proteas and could effectively be ruled out in advance from the next T20 World Cup in June 2024 unless he is handed a surprising return in plans.

With experienced tweaker Kuldeep Yadav consolidating his spot as India's No.1 white-ball wrist-spinner and young Ravi Bishnoi proving to be an exceptional replacement to Chahal in T20Is with a 'Player of the Series' performance against Australia, the Haryana leg-spinner has been reduced into an ODI backup.

Chahal is left with no option but to put in strong performances against the Proteas if he is to revive a dwindling career after facing continuous flak and dip with the ball over the past two years.
