Wasim Akram stood in awe of experienced Indian opener Rohit Sharma for his top-order belligerence and ability to lead the front after a magnificent half-century in his team's final ICC World Cup 2023 league stage encounter on Sunday (November 12).

As Rohit smashed another attacking half-century against the Netherlands in Bangalore to set up India's mammoth total of 410/4 with 61 off 54 deliveries, the Pakistan fast-bowling legend hailed the Indian captain for his stroke-making and flair at the crease.

Speaking on 'A Sports', Wasim said there is no other player in the mold of Rohit. The pace great was particularly impressed by the ease with which the modern-day legend smashes opposition new-ball attacks and can have a deeper influence on matches and ultimately India's fortunes.

"Rohit Sharma 61 off 54, eight fours and two sixes.. I certainly don't think there is a player like him in world cricket," the former Pakistan skipper said. "We talk about emperor Kohli, we talk about Joe Root, Williamson and Babar Azam. But this guy is different."

Wasim Akram Applauds Rohit Sharma

"He makes batting look so easy. Whatever the situation maybe, whatever the opposition maybe, Rohit hits his shots with such ease and great elegance," he added.

Wasim's remarks were backed by another ex captain Shoaib Malik's effusive praise as he interrupted and said:

"Rohit Sharma is someone who hits all five bowlers of an attack, not just one or two. The names Wasim bhai took, they don't do that. He hits all of the bowlers equally."

The pace legend concurred with the views and underlined Rohit's 'tempo' and the intent to ruffle the opposition's feathers early as one of the keys to India's mighty juggernaut at the ongoing World Cup.

Rohit has been in devastating mode at the top of the order and hammered 503 runs at an eye-catching strike rate of 121.49 in India's magnificent 9-0 winning streak ahead of the marquee knock-out stage.

Team India will now take on New Zealand in the revenge clash of the 2019 semifinal at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on November 15.
