Pakistan Test captain, Shan Masood has asserted that there are no match-fixers in the squad for the Bangladesh series, which commences on August 21.

He gave the statement during a pre-series conference, as Pakistan gear up to face the Bangladesh side in a two-match Test series, which is a part of the WTC cycle.

Masood defends Babar Azam of match-fixing allegations

The Pakistan side had a shambolic T20 World Cup, exiting in the group stage after defeats against India and USA. Their white-ball captain, Babar Azam came under scrutiny and was also accused of fixing by a Pakistan journalist.

To end this speculation once and for all, Masood faced the journalists and gave a fitting reply while defending his teammates.

“I will never question any player’s intentions. I don’t think there is anything that points towards match-fixing in the current Pakistan setup,” the Pakistan Test captain said in the Pakistan vs Bangladesh Test pre-series press conference.

Masood was named Pakistan's Test captain in November 2023, after Babar decided to step down from the role, following another group stage crashing in the World Cup held in India.

His first assignment as the captain was the tour of Australia, last year, where the Pakistan side put up a fight, but ultimately lost the series. His next Test will be against the Tigers, who themselves are struggling in the WTC points table.
