On Saturday, March 29, Mumbai Indians will face Gujarat Titans in their second match of IPL 2025. The five-time winners got off to an undesired start, losing to CSK in their opening match.
The Indians missed Jasprit Bumrah as they failed to defend 156 runs. Notably, Bumrah has been out of action since January 2025 because of a back injury. Before the start of the tournament, there were reports that the star right-arm seamer would miss the first three matches for MI.
Jayawardene Updates On Bumrah's Return
However, it seems unlikely as the right-arm seamer is all set to miss more matches for the Men in Blue. MI will play their 3rd match of the tournament on March 31 against KKR.
Currently, Bumrah is at the NCA, where he is still recovering from the injury. Now the fans are curious about an update on Bumrah's return as the Hardik Pandya-led side will lock horns against RCB on April 7. In the latest events, MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene has shed light on Bumrah's update and it not optimistic.
According to the MI head coach, they are still waiting for the NCA to give a green light on Bumrah. He also hinted at a delayed return for the MI star than expected.
“Everyone is available except for Bumrah. Like I said in my last interview as well, it's on a daily basis that he's going through his program. So far, everything seems okay. But there were no timelines given by NCA [Centre of Excellence], so we'll wait on that,” Jayawardene told the reporters on the eve of the match.
Bumrah's injury also resulted in the star right-arm seamer missing out from India's squad for Champions Trophy 2025.
