'No Bazball, No Stupid..': Geoffrey Boycott, Michael Vaughan On England After Headingley Test

After suffering back-to-back defeats, England made a remarkable comeback in the third Ashes 2023 Test against Australia at Headingley and halted the visitors from winning the series.  England chased down 251 in the Leeds Test on Day 4 itself, inviting praise from former players Geoffrey Boycott and Michael Vaughan, who were critical of the hosts batting in the Lord's Test.

Solid knocks from Harry Brook, Zak Crawley, and Chris Woakes helped the Ben Stokes-led XI get past the finish line against a hostile Australian attack. Both Boycott and Vaughan expressed delight in England's lack of 'BazBall' and more of a sensible cricket approach in the second innings.

Speaking to The Telegraph, Boycott hailed sensible strokeplay, while Vaughan wrote that England looked the hungrier side.

Here's what Boycott and Vaughan expressed

"No Bazball, no stupid shots. Sensible stroke play. They did much better. Bat more like this today, with brains as well as talent, and they can win again the next Test."

"Bazball is sometimes too risky and can bring the opposition into the game. But Australia in their second innings showed the dangers of playing it far too safe. Then when Australia tried to be more attacking they almost seemed confused, and Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith both got out to soft dismissals."

"England have a good chance to build on this win and deliver again at Old Trafford. If we can get to the Oval at 2-2, with one to play it will be the greatest Test series in my lifetime."

The fourth Test will take place at Old Trafford in Manchester starting July 19, with Australia leading 2-1.
