In the latest development, Varun Chakravarthy has reportedly been added in India's ODI squad for the upcoming series against England, starting on February 6. Chakravarthy had an impressive T20I outing against the same team, picking up 14 wickets as the England batters were rattled with his guile and skills.
As per ESPNCricinfo, the team management were impressed by his performance in the T20I series and gave no second thought in including him in the ODIs as England still haven't found a way to deal with him. Chakravarthy is uncapped in ODIs and this is his first inclusion in the side.
Interestingly, the wily spinner has only played 23 List-A games and was the highest wicket-taker in the recently concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy. With the inclusion of Varun Chakravarthy, India now has 5 quality spin-bowling options in the squad, which also includes - Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav.
Will he play in the Champions Trophy as well?
While there is official confirmation on Chakravarthy's inclusion in the Champions Trophy squad, there are rumours that with so many injuries in the Indian squad, including that of Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav, the management are tempted to draft him in the squad as a specialist bowler.
