Virat Kohli, the batting maestro, left his indelible mark on the 37th match of the World Cup 2023 against South Africa. In this high-stakes encounter, Kohli displayed his batting prowess by emerging as the highest run-scorer for Team India, contributing significantly to India's formidable total of 326. His masterful innings of 101 runs from 121 deliveries was a testament to his unparalleled skill.

On his 35th birthday, Kohli achieved a milestone that resonates with cricketing legends—equalling Sachin Tendulkar's record of 49 one-day international centuries.

Following the innings break, Virat Kohli graciously reflected on the match, acknowledging the challenges posed by the wicket's changing behavior.

"Well, yeah, it was, ahh... A wicket that was a bit tricky to bat on in the middle overs. Rohit and Shubman gave a brilliant start. But once they got out, the wicket got a bit slower as the ball got old. Rohit and Gill got out around the 10 overs mark. Following it, my role was to bat deep and take the innings to the end.

I and Shreyas had a chat in the middle and wanted to stitch a partnership and try to take it deep. That was what was communicated to me by the team management, Shreyas played well, and we got a few more runs towards the end.

He further said:

Well, I mean, every match I get to play for India is a great feeling. To celebrate my birthday in front of such a massive crowd is a gift.

As I said, the target is well above par. The ball was holding up on the surface once the ball got old. We also have a quality bowling line-up. So pretty confident. Once the ball gets older, it gets slower and gets difficult to bat on. Hopefully, we start well with the new ball."

India's team scored well against the Proteas, and it will be difficult for them to match that total since batting at Eden Gardens in Kolkata is going to be hard.
