Former Team India head coach Ravi Shastri humorously mocked England's star batter, Joe Root, for his disappointing performance with the bat during the ongoing Test series against India. Shastri pointed out that Root, who has only managed to score 70 runs across five innings, has bowled more overs than runs scored in the red-ball series so far.

During commentary for the India-England Test match on Saturday, February 17, Shastri highlighted Root's struggles at the crease, mentioning that the England cricketer "has bowled 89 overs in this Test series, which is more than the runs he scored." This comment came during India's second innings on Day 3 of the third Test match in Rajkot.

Root's batting average stands at a disappointing 14, with his highest score being just 29 in the series. Despite his struggles with the bat, the former England skipper has made some impact with the ball, taking seven wickets at an average of 42.14.

In the ongoing five-Test match series, Root, known primarily as a batter, has bowled a staggering 102 overs so far till lunch on day 4.

The 33-year-old Root, who scored only 18 runs in the first innings of the third Test at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot, has been facing immense pressure to perform in the challenging conditions of India.

In the mamoth chase of 557 runs, England would need their most prolific batter, Joe Root, has change his fortunes with the bat, if they wany to save themselves from embarrassment in Rajkot.
