It was yet another defeat for the Rajasthan Royals, as they fell 10 runs short of Punjab Kings’ total in their final home game of IPL 2025 in Jaipur. Captain Sanju Samson was visibly disappointed while speaking to the broadcasters as he emphasized the need for significant improvement ahead of the next season.
Royals Crash at the Finish Line, Again!
Chasing a steep target of 220 against the Kings, the Royals got off to a flying start but ultimately fell narrowly short, a pattern that has troubled them throughout the season. Samson admitted the total was “definitely chaseable” considering the firepower the Royals have in their batting lineup.
“It kind of ran away from us. We couldn't have asked for a better start but couldn't carry on the momentum that we got in the powerplay. The power hitters we have, it looked like a gettable total,” Samson said in post-match interview.
Samson added that the issues are not limited to just one or two aspects, but rather a combination of a lot of things. With the level of competition in the IPL, he shed light on the importance of experienced players stepping up, something that has not consistently happened for the Royals this season.
Captain Samson Calls for Action
There is no rocket science but the team has fumbled too many chases this season after doing everything well upfront but failing to get the job done. The recurring inability of set batters to see games through to the end has been a crucial factor in Rajasthan Royals' series of narrow defeats this season.
“It's a bit hard to nail it down to 1 or 2 things. We just had to get the job done. A couple of experienced guys have to do the job but the competition we have in IPL, we are trying our best but things are not falling in place. Lots of improvements need to be done for the next season,” Samson added.
With a talented young squad, this is an area that Samson and his side must address ahead of the next season to ensure better execution in pressure moments and convert good starts into match-winning performances.
Overall, Rajasthan Royals have had a disappointing season, managing just 3 wins from 13 games and currently sitting second-last on the points table. From their very first match where they conceded a massive 286 against Sunrisers Hyderabad to narrowly falling short in several chases, it's been an underwhelming couple of months for the Men in Pink.
With just one game remaining, an away fixture against Chennai Super Kings, Sanju Samson and his team will be eager to end a tough campaign on a positive note with a morale-boosting win and come all guns blazing again next year.
