Former Australian captain Steve Smith has weighed in on the ongoing saga unfolding in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024), pinpointing the mounting pressure on none other than Virat Kohli, the star batter of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

Kohli, known for his consistency and unwavering determination on the field, has been a lone warrior for RCB in the IPL 2024. With 203 runs in four matches at an impressive average of 67.66, including two well-crafted fifties, Kohli's individual brilliance stands in stark contrast to the team's overall performance.

Dinesh Karthik, the second-highest scorer for RCB, trails far behind with 90 runs in an equal number of games.

However, despite Kohli's heroics, RCB finds themselves grappling with three losses in four matches, languishing at the eighth spot in the points table.

In an exclusive interaction with PTI, Steve Smith emphasised the indispensable role that RCB's supporting cast must play in alleviating the pressure off Kohli.

Smith on pressure mounting Virat Kohli

"He (Virat Kohli) needs the other key batters to stand up with him, and if they do that, they can turn things around for their season. But, at the moment, they're not so a lot of pressure is on Virat. I doubt he'd be putting extra pressure on himself. (But) some of the other top-order and middle-order (batters) need to help Virat," Smith commented.

As RCB gears up to face Rajasthan Royals (RR) on April 6th at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, the onus lies not only on Kohli but also on the rest of the squad to rise to the occasion.
