Mumbai Indians’ (MI) captain Hardik Pandya seemed distraught after team's 24-run loss to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Wankhede, and Aaron Finch couldn’t help but empathise with Pandya, agreeing that the season has been extremely challenging for the new captain.

Mumbai Indians playoff qualification chances were reduced to mathematical equations after their eighth defeat of the season. MI failed to chase down 170 runs on Wankhede’s slow yet flat deck.

Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya, the captain, was completely distraught and in agony in the dugout following the loss and could barely speak in the post game interview.

That being said, former Australian captain Aaron Finch empathised with the MI captain, noticing that Hardik Pandya looked flat and drained following the loss.

“He looks flat at the moment, he looks drained. He looks like someone who is feeling the pressure. I feel for him as I know what it feels like to be in that situation. Everything that you try doesn’t seem to work and when the team is not performing well, that’s a really difficult place,” Finch told Star Sports.

He has not been performing as a player, and his team is losing, which is the worst that can happen to a player on the field.

“It’s one thing when you are not performing, but your team is winning. That’s something you take pride in as a captain. But you wear all the responsibilities of your own performance and also of the team and it’s an incredibly hard place to be in, particularly in this competition,” Finch added.

Australia's T20 World Cup-winning captain recalled how he faced similar adversities during his leadership days as Australian captain and reckoned that it’s an unpleasant place to be.

Notably, Hardik Pandya went for 2/44 runs against KKR and scored just 1 runs in 3 balls faced.
