Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin responded to his father's surprising comments about his sudden retirement from international cricket. On December 19, Ashwin's father claimed that "humiliation" might have played a role in his decision, which shocked fans and the cricketing world.

R Ashwin's Father Speaks Out On Son's Retirement

In an interview, Ashwin's father expressed disappointment and hinted that his son had faced challenges leading up to his retirement.

He remarked, "There’s no doubt it was emotional for the family. Ashwin has been on the field for 14-15 years, and suddenly, he decides to retire. It came as a shock, but we were also expecting it because there was humiliation. How long could he tolerate it?"

He added that the family had no prior knowledge of Ashwin's decision, and while he respected his son's choice, he was partly unhappy about the timing and nature of the announcement.

Taking to social media, Ashwin requested fans and the media to be kind to his father. In a lighthearted tone, he tweeted, "My dad isn’t media trained. Please forgive him and leave him alone."

He clarified that his father’s remarks were not meant to target anyone specifically and urged people not to blow the issue out of proportion.

Ashwin's Stellar Career

R Ashwin’s sudden retirement has left a void in Indian cricket. As one of the world's leading bowlers, he holds the record for the most Test wickets among active players, with 537 scalps. Across all formats, Ashwin finishes his career with an impressive 765 wickets, second only to Anil Kumble in Indian cricket history.
