Former Pakistan skipper Rashid Latif has stated that Babar Azam still has a long way to go before he becomes a captain who can handle pressure effectively. Latif also expressed that India will be the favourites when they face Pakistan, owing to a more balanced squad.

Babar Azam has been under intense scrutiny due to the significant pressure of captaincy. The India-Pakistan clash, one of the most anticipated matches globally, is scheduled to be held in New York as part of the T20 World Cup 2024, co-hosted by the USA and the West Indies.

In an exclusive interview with PTI, the 55-year-old Pakistan legend commented

“The focus is on the game on June 9 against India. Babar will be under a lot of pressure because of the game against India rather than the overall World Cup performance. But he has to learn to handle pressure, something he could learn from Virat and Rohit. They know how to manage the game. As a batter, Babar is one of the best, but as a captain and leader, he still has much to learn.”

Latif also highlighted the strength of India’s spinners, particularly Kuldeep Yadav.

“Kuldeep Yadav is a key player who, if he remains fit throughout the World Cup, can cause significant trouble for batters. He is crucial for India’s success. Given the current form and statistics, India definitely has an advantage ahead of June 9,” he added.

India and Pakistan will face each other in this high-stakes match on June 9 at Nassau County Stadium, promising an intense and exciting encounter.
