India's former head coach Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma have shared a unique bond in recent years. From understanding the players to winning the T20 World Cup 2024, it was an incredible experience for both. While Dravid is known for his calm and composed nature, Rohit is a more fun-loving player. Together, they helped India break the trophy drought in 2024.
Dravid credits Rohit Sharma for India's T20 revolution
The former coach was all in praise of Rohit Sharma while speaking to Gaurav Kapur on Breakfast With Champions. He talked about Rohit's mindset and how he encouraged the rest of the players to attack and play without thinking about the criticism. He also lauded Rohit for taking charge and playing an aggressive 'brand of cricket'.
"I can't speak for what happened before me, and it's not for me to say that, but certainly from the time I came in, a lot of the discussion with Rohit was around that we wanted to play a more aggressive brand of cricket," Dravid said on Breakfast with Champions.
"We (Rohit and I) started right from the beginning, because we could see that that's the way the game was evolving. And Rohit's got to take a large credit for that, to move the team in a particular direction. Play the game in a lot more aggressive and a lot more positive manner," he added.
Dravid emphasises India's aggressive approach
Rahul Dravid discussed the changes he has observed in the current Indian team, particularly in terms of aggression and attacking gameplay. According to the former head coach, the team aims to score 300 runs in a T20I game, which speaks volumes about their batting prowess.
"I'm glad that we sort of kept going in that direction to the point where I think India's kind of literally, absolutely, I think changing what T20 cricket is like. I think Indian batting in T20 cricket at the moment is off the charts. I mean, it's close to 300. And everyone else in the world is now having to catch up. I think in a space of three or four years you're seeing that everyone's looking at India and saying, 'Shucks man, we've got to match this.' I mean, I wouldn't say like (match) me. I would say (matching) these players," Dravid said.
India will play the second T20I match against Australia on October 31, following the cancellation of the first match due to rain. Hence, the fans will hope to have a full 40-over game in Melbourne.
