As the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 kicks off, all eyes turn to Dubai, where India and Bangladesh gear up for a high-stakes clash in their tournament opener. The Rohit Sharma-led Indian team, fresh off a dominant white-ball series win against England, enters the competition as one of the favourites.

However, the captain, Rohit Sharma, has issued a stern warning that Bangladesh are no pushovers. The skipper shared an overview of the team's morality and how India needs to take on challenges in this major ICC tournament.

Rohit Sharma on Champions Trophy's challenges

Speaking ahead of the match to Star Sports India, Sharma emphasized the unique challenges of global tournaments.

“ICC trophies are always important kyuki bilateral series se bohot different hota hai ye. Aur naye naye teamo ke sath khelte ho ap.. to ye apne ap mei ek bada challenge hota hai (because it’s very different from bilateral series. And when you play against new teams, it becomes a big challenge in itself),” Sharma stated.

Sharma also reserved special praise for Bangladesh, acknowledging their recent rise and stellar form. He further warned that team India is not underestimating them in way ahead of the opener.

“We have a match against Bangladesh; they are a great team and have been in good form over the past few years. So it won’t be easy for us to win against them. Humein apna cricket khelna padhega. Jo hum karte aa rahe hai pichle kaafi saalon se use dohrana padhega (We’ll have to play our cricket. We need to repeat what we’ve been doing for the last several years).”

Rohit backs the boys

Confident yet cautious, the Indian skipper backed his team’s experience, stating that the boys will be sharp to take up the challenges and react accordingly.

“Dekhiye ladko ko pata hai ki matches mein important games mei kya karne ki zaroorat hai (Look, the boys know what needs to be done in crucial matches). So hopefully, we together can put in our best for the team and take home the trophy for our country.”

With Rohit backing the Men in Blue and ready to take on Bangladesh for their campaign opener, for the unaware, the fixture is scheduled for February 20 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in the UAE and fans will be able to catch the live action at 2:30 PM IST.
