RCB star Saurav Chauhan has recalled his first meeting with former Indian captain and legendary CSK veteran MS Dhoni. Chauhan caught up with Dhoni after the conclusion of the opening match of this year’s IPL 2024 season at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai.
In an interview with Ishan Joshi, the 24-year-old cricketer described his experience of meeting a ‘humble’ MS Dhoni, and even revealed that the legendary wicketkeeper-batter was kind enough to offer some batting tips to him.
Chauhan says Dhoni was left amused with ‘sasta’ marker
During his interview with Ishan Joshi on the latter’s YouTube channel, rising star Saurav Chauhan claimed that he went to the CSK dressing to meet MS Dhoni after the opening match of the IPL 2024 season and he was accompanied with a few other of his RCB teammates.
Chauhan revealed that he wanted an autograph of the CSK legend on the back of his t-shirt, and he accidentally brought an ineffective marker to the dressing room. The youngster also recalled Dhoni’s hilarious reaction for the ‘cheap marker’. He said:
“I wanted MS Dhoni's autograph on the back of my T-shirt. He asked me to bring a marker so that he could sign. I ran to take a marker, and there were two markers, one was open, one was closed. I was in a hurry, so I took the open one, which was not working, and I gave it to him.
“He tried to sign with that marker, but it did not work. So, he said, ‘Kya sasta marker le kar aa gaya hai tu yaha pe, chal bhi nahi raha.’ (The marker you brought is so cheap, it's not even working.) Then, before I left to change the marker, Dhoni himself went to take the other marker and gave me his autograph.”
Saurav Chauhan further said that MS Dhoni was humble in his approach, and was even kind enough to offer some batting tips to him. He added:
“Then, we went inside and spoke with him. At that time, it did not feel like I was talking to MS Dhoni. He was so humble. I took some batting tips from him.”
Saurav Chauhan made his IPL debut for the RCB franchise this year with a game against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur. While Chauhan played just three matches throughout the season, the young wicketkeeper-batter managed to contribute just 18 runs for his team.
