Rachin Ravindra charted 134 alluring runs against India in the first New Zealand innings of the series-opening Bengaluru Test. Batting at number four, the cricketer smeared 13 boundaries and four sixes during his 157-ball stay at the crease.

Ravindra’s innings stretched New Zealand’s lead to 356 runs, after the visitors had found themselves at the precipice of getting all out near 233-7. After Day 3, the 24-year-old credited his IPL franchise, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), for “shoring up his games plans”, and the batting all-rounder also signified the importance of Virat Kohli’s wicket right at the edge of stumps.

Rachin Ravindra credits CSK for India success

As quoted by PTI, Rachin Ravindra emphasised the importance of Virat Kohli’s wicket off the final ball of Day 3, i.e., right at the edge of Stumps. He said:

“It's pretty hard to crystal-ball gaze into the future. It's a quality batting line-up on a wicket that's not doing too much, so it's important for us to hold our lines and lengths and do that for long periods. But I think Kohli's wicket at the end was very important. Obviously, he's a guy who has scored 9,000-plus Test runs, which is pretty mind-blowing, but for us it was a huge wicket.”

Rachin Ravindra also credited his experience at CSK academy for his astounding success in the first Test against Team India. The batting all-rounder claimed that practising on the academy's red and black soil pitches helped him fine-tune his spin game. He added:

“The CSK guys really sorted me out and I was able to have four or five days really good training on red soil and black soil wickets. So, that helped me shore up game plans and work on a few positions that I wanted to.”

Rachin Ravindra’s eight-wicket partnership with Tim Southee yielded 137 runs for New Zealand, helping the visitors gain a colossal 356-run lead over Team India.

For the Indians, unbeaten Sarfaraz Khan (70*) will be joined by either Rishabh Pant or KL Rahul on Day 4 as the hosts will resume their second innings at 231-3, still finding themselves another 125 runs away from New Zealand.
