As South Africa and India gear up for the penultimate face-off in their three-match T20I series with a clash at St George's Park in Gqeberha on Tuesday (December 12), we at 'OneCricket' recall and celebrate five of the top run-getters in the history of the rivalry between the two great nations. 

It was against South Africa back during the 2006-07 tour that the Men in Blue played their maiden T20I. The two nations have since locked horns in 24 matches in the format, which have witnessed some truly remarkable individual batting performances and star players shining in either camp. 

Enlisted below are five such icons of the modern-day game, who have had a dominant run with the bat in India-South Africa T20Is and boast of impressive personal records despite the high-pressure contests played by the two teams. 

Top 5 Batters In IND-SA T20I History 

Rohit Sharma

With a memorable century in Dharamshala during the 2015 home series, Rohit Sharma enjoys a tally of 420 runs against South Africa from 16 T20I innings. The great opener is the highest run-maker in the history of the rivalry in the shortest format, having blasted his runs at a strike-rate of 129.23. Rohit's tally features 49 fours and a trademark 16 maximums. 

David Miller

The swashbuckling Miller is second in the list with 379 runs made in 15 innings for South Africa against the Indians. Miller blasted a hundred during last year's three-match series played in Indian conditions to underline his great quality and resounding threat. He boasts of an average of 47.37 and a tremendous strike rate of 161.96 for his runs versus the Indian bowlers. 

Suresh Raina

Up next is India's former middle-order stalwart Raina, whose T20I career versus South Africa featured a magnum opus knock 101 in St Lucia during the 2010 T20 World Cup in the Caribbean. He is third in the list of top run-getters for the T20I rivalry with 339 runs from 11 innings at a valiant strike rate of 148.03, including 34 fours and 13 sixes. 

Virat Kohli

Never one to be left far behind, modern-day maestro Kohli holds the penultimate post in the esteemed list with his tally of 318 runs from 12 innings. A great anchor, Kohli has an average of 35.33 and a strike rate of 134.17 against the South Africans in his T20I career. Kohli's CV versus the Proteas includes a defining knock of 72* off 44 deliveries in the high-pressure run-chase at the 2014 T20 World Cup semifinal in Dhaka. 

Quinton de Kock

Last but certainly not least, veteran opener Quinton de Kock holds the fifth spot in the list of top India-South Africa T20I run-makers with 312 runs made across just nine innings. A quality aggressor at the top, De Kock has always relished his time out against Indian bowlers. He averages 44.57 while retaining a strike rate of 140.54 versus the Indians.
