The Asia Cup 2025 is all set to start on September 9, and Pakistan selectors have revealed a 17-member squad for the continental tournament. Mike Hesson, Pakistan head coach, and member of the selection committee, Aaqib Javed, were present in the press conference for the announcement and opened up on the logic behind team selection.
Aaqib Javed Expresses Confidence In Pakistan's Asia Cup 2025 Squad
Aaqib Javed was also asked whether the team selected has the ability to beat India in the September 14 clash. In reply, the Pakistan head coach sounded confident and stated that the match between the two neighbours is the biggest game in the world of cricket. He added that the players involved and everyone around know the importance of the game and claimed that the Pakistan team selected for Asia Cup 2025 has the talent to beat any team in the tournament.
"Bilkul hai. Hum chahe ya na chahe, India aur Pakistan ko jo match hai woh cricket me sabse bada match hai. Aur yeh har player ko bhi ehsaas hota hai, har insaan ko bhi ehsaas hota hai and I think he ye 17-member ke jo squad hai usme itni ability hai jo kisse bhi team ko hara sakti hai", Aaqib Javed said in Press Conference.
Pakistan Selector Cautions People Against Putting Extra Pressure On Players
Javed also mentioned that things keep changing and urged everyone to stay behind the team. He also gave reference to the ongoing off-field tensions between India and Pakistan and added that his players are ready. He, however, cautioned people not to put extra pressure on the players but expressed confidence on the team.
"I am very hopeful, cheeze change hoti rehti hai, iss dafa aap bhi tayari pakade aur hum bhi pakadte hai. Players bhi ready hai, aur sabko ehsaas hai ke yeh kitna bada match hai aur jis tarah ke aajkal haalat chal rahe. Yeh bhi nahi ke unke upar koi pressure daalna hai, but I am really hopeful, Aaqib Javed added.
Thus, Aaqib Javed has clearly shown confidence in the young Pakistan unit. India have been in red-hot form in T20Is, and it would be interesting to see how this indirect warning from Pakistan's head coach materialises on September 14.
