'It's Not About Kohli's 49th Hundred': Nasser Hussain Urges Indian Fans To Look At Bigger Picture

The Indian Cricket team is in the midst of an impressive run in this year’s ODI World Cup edition. The two-time World Cup champions have exercised brutal domination over their opponents and remain the only team to be undefeated so far in this competition. At present, the spotlight seems to be on the former Indian captain Virat Kohli who is fast approaching Sachin's monumental world record of 49 ODI hundreds.

Kohli has looked in sublime form and has already notched up a ton in this year’s World Cup against Bangladesh scouring an unbeaten 103 (97). Moreover, Kohli missed out on his well-deserved century on two occasions in the last three encounters against New Zealand and Sri Lanka. As the home side prepares to take on South Africa at Eden Gardens, fans are eagerly looking forward to seeing Kohli equal Tendulkar’s rare feat of 49 ODI centuries.

Nasser Hussain's interesting remarks

Amidst heightened anticipation, cricketer-turned-commentator Nasser Hussain stressed the importance of winning the World Cup rather than focusing on individual milestones. He further added that the chase master will eventually sail past Tendulkar’s massive record but winning the World Cup should be of utmost importance.

“India should not make this about Virat Kohli's 49th hundred. He will get there. He will get to 50 hundreds. He will probably get to 100 centuries, he's that good. But the most important thing is to win the World Cup.”

The former English batsman recollected his conversation with Sachin Tendulkar where the latter revealed how the enormous pressure surrounding his 100th international century prevented him from playing his natural game.

"I remember talking to Sachin Tendulkar. The only time enormity got to him was when he was going from 99 to 100 centuries. Right from the room service boy to the experts, everyone was asking him 'when are you getting that 100 century?"

Hussain backs Kohli to stay aloof from all the clutter and advises him to focus on the task at hand. An intense showdown awaits us this Sunday as India prepares to lock horns with South Africa in Kolkata who appear to be in menacing form off late.
