Australia avoided a series whitewash, winning the third and final ODI versus India by 66 runs.

Fielding an almost full-strength side, the Australian line-up was boosted by the returns of Mitchell Starc and Glenn Maxwell, who came back into the playing XI after successfully recovering from their respective injuries.

Although Maxwell did not contribute much in Australia's total of 352 runs, the all-rounder hit the right note with his bowling, bagging a four-wicket haul and being the best bowler from both the sides in the fixture.

Maxwell recorded his best figures (4/40) in ODI cricket, taking four wickets in a single match for the first time in his career.

Speaking on the occasion of getting the Player of the Match award, Maxwell talked about his return from the ankle injury, saying that the South Africa tour was a setback for him as his fitness did not allow him to play.

"Got two haha (award cheques). It's been a lot of hard work. I think the SA tour was kind of a setback. I went back, got an injection. I feel a lot fresh now. I don't have any travel issues like the other guys. Had gkt home, been fresh," Maxwell was quoted as saying.

The 34-year-old further asserted on his bowling, informing that he had to bowl more overs because Mitchell Marsh was not on the field.

"It's nice to chip in. I think Mitch Marsh was not there, and hence we didn't chop and change with our bowling. We all are trying to be as flexible as possible. We have a super-flexible list and it's good to get some momentum before the World Cup.

Australia will remain in India to play the ODI World Cup 2023, which starts on October 5. Before the tournament begins, they have two warm-up matches scheduled against the Netherlands and Pakistan on September 30 and October 3 respectively.
