Namibia somehow crossed the winning line against a spirited Oman side in their tournament opener at the T20 World Cup 2024.

Chasing a modest 110, Oman showed grit and determination and restricted Namibia to 109, thus forcing a Super-Over contest. However, the Oman hopes were dashed when Namibia's most experienced player, David Wiese chipped in with runs in the Super-Over, and followed it up with a superb over to win the game for his side.

Wiese blasts 'Poor' Barbados pitch

As a result of his match-winning efforts, David Wiese was awarded the Player of the Match award. Speaking to the official broadcasters after the nerve-wracking contest, Wiese criticised the Kensington Oval (Barbados) pitch for being unpredictable.

"I think the pitch was actually a difficult one. It didn't play the way we expected, but I thought we adapted quite nicely. It was a little unpredictable, with some balls popping up a bit, others staying low, and a few turning sharply for the spinners."

He further stated that anything in the region of 140 would have been difficult to chased down. Moreover, the veteran summed up Namibia's performance by stating that the team has learned a lot from this close-fought contest.

"Definitely, 140 would have been tough to chase down there, but when you have a bit more intent, things change. We've learned a lot from this game, and we’ve had a run on this wicket now, so we’ve got another opportunity. Yeah, hopefully, we can take the learnings into the next game."

Namibia, will next play against Scotland on Friday, June 7.
