The Asia Cup 2025 Super Fours clash between India and Pakistan had enough drama on the field, but what followed has lit an even bigger fire. Fakhar Zaman’s controversial dismissal against Hardik Pandya sparked heated debates and now former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has thrown fuel on the flames by bringing the Indian Premier League (IPL) into the conversation.
Afridi fired fresh shot in Fakhar Zaman wicket debate
Afridi is never shy of stirring the pot and this time, his remarks about the umpiring decision have left fans buzzing. Fakhar Zaman was adjudged caught behind by wicketkeeper Sanju Samson, though many viewers felt the ball had bounced just before reaching the gloves. The third umpire checked a couple of replays before giving it out, much to Fakhar’s frustration.
Afridi, speaking on Samaa TV, didn’t mince his words.
“Unhone IPL me bhi toh umpiring karni hai,” Shahid Afridi said, hinting that the umpire’s decision was swayed by the lure of umpiring in the IPL. The comment was loaded and it instantly caught everyone’s attention.
Yusuf backs Afridi
It wasn’t just Afridi who raised eyebrows. Former Pakistan batter Mohammad Yusuf, who was on the panel with Afridi, echoed the same sentiment. He questioned the process and the lack of detailed review.
“They didn’t even check many angles. Fakhar had hit three fours and handled Bumrah with ease in the first over. His wicket was crucial for India,” Yusuf said, suggesting the dismissal tilted the game India’s way.
Pakistan lodge protest
The controversy didn’t stop with TV pundits. Pakistan’s team manager, Naveed Akram Cheema, has reportedly fired off an email to the match referee and umpires questioning the process.
According to reports on Samaa TV, Pakistan management argued that the TV umpire ignored several available angles and that the evidence was not “clear and conclusive.” They insisted the benefit of doubt should have gone to the batter, but instead, the call favoured India.
Fakhar, who scored 15 off 9 before walking back, was visibly upset. He shook his head on the way to the dugout, even exchanging a few words with head coach Mike Hesson, who waved his hand in frustration.
