In a game-changing moment, Hardik Pandya drew the first blood for India in their ongoing Asia Cup encounter against Pakistan at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Bowling his second over, Pandya dismissed the well-set Fakhar Zaman, providing India with an early breakthrough in the game.
Fakhar Zaman's Dismissal Creates Controversy In Asia Cup
From over the wicket, Hardik Pandya bowled a brilliant delivery that jagged away from Fakhar after pitching around the off stump. As the left-handed batter went for a defensive shot, the ball took the outside edge, with Sanju Samson taking a sharp catch behind the stumps.
Although Samson claimed a clean catch, the on-field umpires referred it to the TV umpire. It turned out to be a trickier call than what everyone expected initially; but the third umpire adjudged the batter out after going through multiple replays.
However, Fakhar wasn't convinced with the decision and openly expressed his dissatisfaction by nodding his head with disapproval and having an intense conversation with head coach Mike Hesson on his way through to the Pakistani dressing room.
While the Indian fans celebrated his key wicket, the Pakistani fans complained of foul play, accusing the match officials of deciding in India's favour.
Here are some of the best reactions:
Fakhar Zaman given out when the ball was clearly on the ground. Another daylight robbery. But when it’s India, ICC always looks the other way.
The ball clearly touched the ground, yet the third umpire ruled Fakhar Zaman out. Third class umpiring continues to favor India.
Fakhar Zaman complaining to Mike Hesson about BCCI’s match fixing. You cannot buy umpires like that.
Everyone can see fakhar zaman was not out except that umpire even after watching footages from different angles. Shocking decision.
In fact, several Pakistani commentators, including Waqar Younis, criticised the TV umpire on-air, for not watching the replay from multiple angles. However, later, it was revealed that that particular angle couldn't be shown to the umpire as it was far away from Samson, providing no real clarity on the fairness of the catch.
