Stephen Fleming, the coach of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), discussed the ongoing transition in captaincy within the team. He expressed satisfaction with Ruturaj Gaikwad's ability to handle pressure and perform admirably as captain, having won 2 out of 3 games.

Additionally, Fleming highlighted the involvement of MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja, stating that while Gaikwad leads on the field, it's Dhoni and Jadeja who take charge off the field.

A day before the start of the IPL 2024 season, it was announced that Dhoni would be stepping down from the captaincy, paving the way for young Ruturaj, who has shown consistency in recent years, to take over as the new captain of the CSK franchise.

This marks the second time in three years that Chennai has had to adjust to life without Dhoni at the helm. In 2022, when Jadeja was given the captaincy, it didn't go smoothly. However, with Gaikwad, the transition has been relatively smoother so far.

Fleming made his remarks following CSK's first defeat of the season against DC.

"To transition into the job is not easy, but he's done it seamlessly. We're using MS as well, still as part of the decision making. So he, along with Jadeja, providing leadership off the field, and he's doing really well. He had a hard game to do today, and he did it well, within the time frames, which is important. His batting form has been fine in the nets and his demeanour off the field is excellent. So really positive around the captaincy," Stephen Fleming said after the game.

However, there is a concern regarding Ruturaj's batting performance. Despite being a consistent performer for CSK in recent years, he has only managed to score 62 runs in three games this season, averaging 20.67 with a strike rate of 116.98.

This falls below Gaikwad's usual standards. The CSK captain will look to regain some form when CSK play their next fixture against Hyderabad on Friday.
