Having steamrolled teams in the group and semi-final stages, India squared off against Australia in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 Final at Ahmedabad with an unbeaten 10-match streak behind their back.

However, the final in the Narendra Modi Stadium did not turn out for India as fans and former players predicted, where the hosts were outplayed across departments, and Australia ended up lifting its sixth World Cup title.

The Indian team has found support from several quarters after their thumping loss, including across the border from Pakistan in the form of former skipper Wasim Akram

Speaking on The Pavilion on A Sports, Akram stated how Indian cricket is in a good place despite the failure to win the elusive ICC title on Sunday.

Here's what Wasim Akram said:

"Obviously they must be shattered to lose the final but in cricket these things happen. India had one bad day, and unfortunately, it came in the final. You look at their structure, the money for players, the well thought out programs and the back up talent and they really just need to continue doing these things. Their cricket is in a good place."

The former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bowling coach explained how Australians are in knockout matches, having faced them in ICC World Cup 1999 Final, where Steve Waugh-led Pakistan thrashed Wasim Akram-led Pakistan men.

"I was captain when we played them in the 1999 World Cup final and although we had beaten them in the league stage, in the final they were a different side just like yesterday in Ahmedabad."

Meanwhile, India's immediate international assignment will be a five-T20I series against Australia, which starts from November 23.
