The sleeps have gone AWOL as the excitement for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 has kept everyone awake. The tournament is scheduled to take place in a hybrid model in Pakistan and United Arab Emirates. However, the path to reach to this conjecture was not an easy one as a lot demands were put-up regardless the highly-anticipated tournament will commence from 19 February onwards.
During a group media interaction at the Dubai International Stadium, former Pakistan bowler Mohammad Amir spoke about Champions Trophy and his national team's chances at the tournament. However, what grabbed attention was when he displayed his admiration for the Indian cricket team.
"The way Pakistan has played recently — defeating Australia in Australia and then beating South Africa — shows their strength, especially in overseas conditions. Considering their recent performances, I think Pakistan will have the upper hand against India. However, India has always been my favorite in big tournaments. But the Indian team is under pressure and facing severe criticism due to their recent defeats."
Bumrah's Absence A 'Huge Loss'
Talking about Bumrah and his potential absence from the Indian team, Amir said:
"It will be a huge loss to India if Bumrah isn't there. He has been a top bowler for India, leading the pack from the front. Without him, the Indian bowling attack is reduced to 40-50 percent of its strength," he said.
India, who are currently going through a rough phase, are yet to announce their squad for the Champions Trophy. In all likeliness it is expected that India's star performer Jasprit Bumrah will be missing the initial matches of the tournament due to his back injury sustained during the final Test match against Australia.
