Regarded as the mother of all battles, the India versus Pakistan encounter has always been the focal point in every multinational tournament. Both teams, studded with superstars, have thrilled cricket fans with riveting contests over the years and will once again go up against each other on September 2 in the Asia Cup 2023. However, ahead of the mega clash in the marquee event, former Pakistan seamer Sarfraz Nawaz has made a bold comment on the Indian cricket team.

Speaking to the media in Lahore on Friday, Nawaz reckoned that Pakistan would start as the favourites to win the game against India, considering their more settled combination than their arch-rivals. The ex-pacer also explained how India's recent experimentations in the ODIs will lead to disastrous results in the showpiece event.

'Indian side is being destroyed'- Sarfraz Nawaz

“Pakistan has a much more settled and stable outfit for the Asia Cup and World Cup when compared to India. The Indians have still not been able to work out their final combination for these major events," Nawaz said.

"Captains are changing, many new players are being tried out, there are no proper combinations. I feel instead of developing the Indian side it is being destroyed," he added.

Nawaz isn't entirely wrong in his assessment, as the Indian team has recently conducted plenty of experiments in their ODI setup. While Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli didn't bat against West Indies, the likes of Suryakumar Yadav, Sanju Samson and Axar Patel were shuffled throughout the batting lineup.

India and Pakistan will face each other on September 2 in Kandy in the Asia Cup. There could be several clashes between the arch-rivals, subjected to their qualification for the Super Four round. Following the Asia Cup, they will again collide in Ahmedabad in the group stage of the 2023 World Cup.
