Mukesh Kumar garnered praise for his stellar bowling performance in the ongoing second Test between India and West Indies. The right-arm pacer notched his first-ever Test wicket on a rain-interrupted third day and looked in a complete control.

Mukesh bagged his maiden Test wicket by dismissing debutant Kirk McKenzie, who contributed 32 runs to the Windies scoreboard. While rain played spoilsport, India's experienced spin duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja led the attack.

However, Mukesh, who bowled a total of 14 overs on the third day, showcased glimpses of his promise and potential to the world cricket. Out of the 14 overs he bowled, four of them were maiden, while he ended the third day with an economy rate of 2.50.

India's bowling coach, Paras Mhambrey, showered accolades on Mukesh for his outstanding performance. He was particularly pleased with Mukesh's partnership with Mohammed Siraj later in the day, where they made excellent use of the second new ball.

Here’s what Mhambrey said after the stumps on Day 3:

"I think he bowled very well. Given the conditions the way he has gone about putting everything behind the ball that is very heartening to see and that is what is expected from him and from the team management this is what we wanted. Just to give his best and this is what he has done.”

“I am extremely happy with the progress he has shown from the first ball of the first session he bowled, to the second new ball where he showed some signs of moving the new ball. It was real quality stuff."

India's Chances Hinge on the First Session, Says Bowling Coach Mhambrey

Although the pitch in Trinidad has been less than favorable for the bowlers in the first three days of the Test, Mhambrey remains hopeful about India's chances of winning this Test.

The bowling coach highlights the importance of the first session on Sunday, especially after witnessing Mukesh and Siraj's ability to trouble the West Indian batter with their swing during the final session on Saturday.

"I think the first session (on Sunday) will be important. To see the way, swung the ball in the last session right now, both Siraj and Mukesh came in and swung the ball and troubled the batters and there were a couple of close calls out there.”

Furthermore, Mhambrey added that if India can pick up a couple of early wickets, it will open up the match in their favour, allowing them to take control and potentially secure a series victory.

“Looking at that, I think the first session in the morning and even the first hour is going to be crucial. If we pick up a couple of wickets is opens up the match for us and we can take the game forward and see where we are. What we look for from the bowlers is to hit the right areas, show some patience and make the batters play."

West Indies exhibited a brilliant batting display on the third day of the Test, accumulating 229 runs while losing five wickets. For India, Ravindra Jadeja picked up two wickets, and R Ashwin, Mukesh Kumar, and Mohammed Siraj added one wicket each to their tally.
