A new-look Team India will face Australia in a highly-contested T20I series at home, which starts today and will be Suryakumar Yadav leading a young side.

One of the key players for India will be Rinku Singh, who in limited chances has impressed and shown his prowess as a finisher, a role that become critical in T20 cricket, and with T20 World Cup 2024 around the corner, selectors need to identify players already.

Former Indian international Abhishek Nayar, who works closely with Singh at Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) lauded the youngster for understanding his role as a finisher. As quoted by India Today, Nayar stated how important this series is for Singh, who could cement his place with good performances.

Here's what Nayar said about Rinku

"It's a big game for him (Rinku Singh) and he knows it’s a big opportunity. He has worked really hard to come here and has done exceedingly well whenever he has got a chance. Just for him to be in this position and to now play against a team like Australia in India, with the understanding that the series is going to hold a lot of weightage in the future, playing a finisher’s role is not easy."

"There might be around 10 to 12 balls remaining when he comes to bat. So, it’s about understanding how he plays them. He hasn't played a lot in Vizag, but hopefully he can make a very big impact in Indian cricket."

Since August 2023, Singh has played five T20Is for India, which includes the recently concluded Asian Games in China.
