West Indies cricketer Andre Russell spoke on his international commitments, stating that he is willing to give up on a couple of franchise leagues in order to don the maroon jersey.

Russell last played for the West Indies in the T20 World Cup 2021. He was left out of the squad for the recent edition of the tournament as chief selector Desmond Haynes cited Russell's poor form behind the decision.

"I think in the situation with Andre Russell, we've just decided to move on, and look for someone who's in form, and doing well in the T20 format," Haynes had said last year.

Though most of the West Indies' players, including Russell, have often been accused of prioritising franchise cricket, the Jamaican now is keen to play for the Caribbean side.

"I am available. I want to be a part of the next World Cup so that would be something special to me if they can add me to the squad," Russell said as quoted to the Jamaica Observer.

The 35-year-old is well aware of how the selection works and is even ready to play a few bilaterals to make himself available for the next World Cup.

"I am willing to play a couple of series to make myself available. I am not just going to turn up and say I want to play at the World Cup from nothing at all. I know how everything works; I know I have to sacrifice a couple leagues in order to play for West Indies. I am willing to do that and try to give them the best chance in the World Cup, and whatever I can contribute in whatever area, I am willing to do it," he added.

While nothing has been communicated to Russell on the upcoming India series, he still is eager to take up the assignment.

"There is an India series coming up that I would want to be a part of but no one has said anything to me and I am just minding my own business. I am just doing what I am doing — still training hard," Russell informed.

Meanwhile, the all-rounder is featuring for the Los Angeles Knight Riders in the Major League Cricket 2023.
