‘I Think He Is Done’ - Aakash Chopra Questions David Warner's Future With Delhi Capitals

Renowned cricket commentator and former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra recently shared his views on the future of David Warner with the Delhi Capitals (DC) ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.

With DC finishing sixth in IPL 2024, securing 14 points from as many games, Chopra believes significant changes are necessary, including reconsidering their Australian contingent.

David Warner, aged 38, had a challenging season, managing just 168 runs at an average of 21.00 from eight matches before being sidelined by a finger injury.

Despite his illustrious IPL career and reputation as an explosive left-handed opening batter, Warner's recent performance has been underwhelming.

In a video on his YouTube channel, Chopra expressed doubts about Warner's retention.

"The Australian investment is not working, whether it is David Warner or Mitchell Marsh. I don't remember a single season Mitchell Marsh played fully and did well. He can do well but doesn't play a full season. I think David Warner is done. You might not want to retain him. Forget Jhye Richardson, he won't even come into their thoughts," he elaborated.

Potential Retentions For DC

Chopra emphasized that DC should focus on retaining their key players, notably Rishabh Pant and Jake Fraser-McGurk.

"Rishabh Pant as the first retention because you want to retain the captain in any case. You won't get anyone like Rishabh Pant again. So you will want to keep Rishabh Pant. You will want to retain Jake Fraser-McGurk. You want to go with him because of the way he bats," Chopra reasoned.

Pant was DC’s highest run-scorer in IPL 2024, amassing 446 runs at a strike rate of 155.40 in 13 innings. Fraser-McGurk also impressed, scoring 330 runs at a remarkable strike rate of 234.04 in nine games.

While there has been no official announcement regarding the date of the IPL 2025 auction, it is speculated to occur between December 2024 and February 2025.
