'I Have To Get In Between These Two...' Ponting On Warner-Johnson Controversy

The Australian team recently lifted their sixth World Cup title, and David Warner was among the top scorers of the tournament with over 500 runs. Earlier this year, Warner announced that the Sydney Test against the Pakistan team in January would be his last Test match as it is being played on his home ground, and there's nothing better than playing the last Test at his home.

Mitchell Johnson, who was a lethal fast bowler of the Australian team commented about Warner's retirement and is currently paying the heavy price for it in the form of hatred from the whole cricketing fraternity. Having played for over ten years together for the Australian team, Johnson doesn't want Warner to receive a hero reception on his last Test due to the Sand Paper incident.

Following this controversy, Ricky Ponting, the former Australian captain, who has led the team including these two steps up and said that it's time for him to intervene and put an end to this controversy.

Here's what Ponting said about the Johnson-Warner controversy:

“I have to get in between these two guys at some stage ... I think I need to be the mediator and get them both in a room and let them have it out rather than playing it out in the media. They’re both pretty feisty characters and we know this issue that’s come up now goes back six or eight months, back to the Ashes selection."

Ponting further added that this goes back to when Warner was picked up for the Ashes despite his lousy form. He said that he would get them together and would have a word with them face-to-face to put an end to this discussion.

“That’s where it all started. It sounds like an issue that’s gone on without either of them sitting down and having a face-to-face conversation. I’d like to see that happen."
