After a dramatic turnaround with the ball, India had a forgettable outing with the bat in their first innings of the WTC final against Australia, being reduced to 151 for five at stumps on day 2. While most of their batters were outclassed by Australia's rampant bowling attack, former vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane stood firm, going unbeaten to the dressing room after the day's play. 

Rahane, who made his Test comeback following his exploits in the Ranji Trophy and IPL 2023, looked rock-solid against the Australian bowlers. Besides frustrating the Aussies with his stoic defence, the stylish Mumbai batter struck four glorious boundaries for his 71-ball 29*. 

Following his impressive outing in the ultimate Test, Rahane earned massive applause from legendary broadcaster Harsha Bhogle and former South African captain AB de Villiers. 

Taking to his social media handle, Bhogle sought improvement from India's top order, lauding Rahane and Jadeja for their rescue act. Meanwhile, De Villiers admitted to being impressed with Rahane's approach, hailing him for his technique in the comment section. 


Regarding the game, India are in a precarious position, needing 119 more runs to avoid the follow-on. With five wickets in hand, all they need is a miracle from Rahane and company to stay alive in the Test match.
