With India playing crucial 50-overs tournaments in back-to-back months, former India captain Virat Kohli has opened up on his love for One-Day Internationals (ODI). Considered a dying format, Kohli said that ODIs bring the best out of the batter as they test several aspects of a cricketer.

Kohli will be in action for India in the upcoming Asia Cup 2023, where the Rohit Sharma-led side begins its campaign against Pakistan on September 2.

Speaking with official broadcasters, Star Sports, the 34-year-old explained how he loves embracing challenges ODIs throw at him and helping his side win matches.  Interestingly, Kohli is on the brink of scoring 13,000 ODI runs and has been in terrific form this year, slamming 427 runs in 10 ODIs with two tons.

Here's what Kohli said

“I love playing ODI cricket. I think, for me, ODI cricket is probably the one format which tests your game completely. Your technique, composure, patience, playing the situation, and playing differently in different phases of the game. I think it tests you as a batsman completely.

That’s why, I feel that ODI cricket has always brought the best out of me because I like to embrace that challenge and play according to the situation to help my team win. I have always tried to do that, so, as I said, it provides the opportunity to test myself regularly, all aspects of my batting, and that’s why I really enjoy playing ODI cricket.”

Overall, in 275 ODIs for India, Kohli has amassed 12,898 runs with 46 centuries and 65 fifties, already putting him in the league of untouchable batters in the format.
